Brad Treat Memorial

Donation protected
On the afternoon of June 29th, 2016, Brad Treat passed away near his home outside of Glacier National Park as a result of an encounter with a bear. Brad was 38 years old.

Although his time was short, Brad will be remembered for having the best that life could offer.  An exceptional man, his life was filled with highlights and special memories that were unique to him. His heart and his dedication will be remembered and admired by all who knew him. A selfless person, he made others around him better.

He was born in Kalispell, Montana on September 23, 1977.  He graduated from Flathead High School in 1996 where he was a standout athlete and leader. As one of Montana’s best distance runners, Brad went on to run at Washington State University and there received his BA in Sociology.

During a summer break, Brad met Somer Hileman of West Glacier, Montana and they married in 2000.  Brad then attended the University of Montana, running for the Grizzlies and obtaining his Masters Degree in Criminology.

Having a love of the outdoors, Brad and Somer returned to West Glacier and began their life together with the Park Service and the Forest Service.  Brad became a Federal Law Enforcement Officer and worked tirelessly on behalf of others.

Brad excelled in his position, possessing a unique combination of skills and capabilities mixed with judgment, humility, and kindness.  His professionalism and demeanor established a benchmark for the profession and was the personification of what a Law Enforcement Officer could be.

During his career, Brad’s abilities and personality allowed him to work across multiple jurisdictions.  In addition to the U.S. Forest Service, he served with numerous federal, state, county, and local agencies.  The family would like to give special thanks to all who worked with Brad and counted him as their brother.

Brad is survived by his wife Somer and a very close and loving family.  Brad and Somer felt privileged to love many children as their own and were an exceptional “uncle and aunt” to many.

Brad’s memorial will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Legends Field in Kalispell starting at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Brad be remembered through a scholarship fund with Flathead High School Athletic Division in memory of Brad Treat.
