Help for Lylah's Medical Bills

Donation protected
My daughter was born with a very rare condition called Giant congenital nevus (which is basically a large birthmark) on the back half of her scalp. She was born with long, beautiful dark hair on this particular area (I immediately gave her the nickname Rapunzel), we were overjoyed to be blessed with a beautiful daughter as our first child but soon after her birth we received unsettling news that we were advised to see a pediatric dermatologist immediately after leaving the hospital with her. We were new parents, unsure of what news lies ahead. The pediatric dermatologist told us that this particular skin condition was in a very rare placement on her body (more typically found on the torso or face) but there were possible risks associated with the skin condition: melanoma. We were told that if she were to get melanoma, it would develop in her brain first before showing signs on the surface. Surgery to remove the nevus and replace with her healthy skin would be in her near future.

We immediately started to search for the right team to put our daughter's future with, we found a fantastic team at Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis who was the perfect fit for us. We were advise that it would be a long road ahead of us requiring multiple surgeries, skin expansions, dressing changes, stitch removal, etc.

Then I lost my job. My last day was the day before Lylah's first surgery but my attention was purely on her and although it was hard, now I could fully devote my time with her and my wife in helping Lylah's post surgery needs.

A few months later I was able to find a job but the surgeries continued, Lylah had 15 surgeries before the age of 2 (including two MRSA scares). Medical bills became a common sight in our mailbox and we set up payment plans yet bills assumed to be under that same payment plan were then sent to collections. We've had some medical debt forgiven but with so many payment plans and collection payments coming in that soon we were unable to afford our house and went through the long process of short sale.

Lylah has a break from surgeries this year (to allow scar tissue to heal) but in 2017 she will have what we expect to be our last set of surgeries.

Over the years we've had to buy our own medical supplies (bandages, syringes and saline for her skin expansions, antibiotics, etc.) as well as what medical bills or bills with collections we have left, I'm asking for help in any way possible.

Thank you for your time and any donations we receive!
