My friend Henry has been a truck driver for most of his life, he loved to drive the American roads and used his truck to bring goods from Texas to the Northern States.
But on Aug 22 everything changed.
Henry was at his usual rest stop just outside of Camden waiting to deliver his cargo the next day. About 10 pm he went to get coffee at the gas station next to his stop, and when coming back to his truck, Henry was struck by a car and left unconscious on the road.
The driver didn't stop and continue his way, about one mile from the incident where he lost control of the car and crashed against a tree pinning himself and his female passenger.
Meanwhile, the police and EMS arrived to get Henry and was MedEvac via Helicopter to Cooper University Hospital.
Henry lost his right leg due to this accident, several broken ribs, his liver is not working, his pelvis was also broken, both arms were dislocated. the right arm is fractured, a tracheostomy had to be made because both of his lungs were collapsed, heavy concussion; stitches on his head due to skull fractures
The police officer that attended Henry's incident was also called to attend the site where the car hit the tree.
The officer noticed that the car was missing a side door mirror and the windshield had blood on the outside. This officer put it together and realized that this was the car that hit Henry.
The driver of the car refused to take a breathalyzer however the officer managed to get a court order and officially determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol
Henry's son (John) was called from the Hospital and immediately went to NJ to aid his father.
John is living in his father's truck but with very little money to sustain himself and unable to work in NJ.
John has been in NJ for nearly one month, unable to work, and wondering how to get his father back to Texas.
There are no words for this. We want to help John and his father and to take all or any financial burden out of the question.
Every dollar will go help them and to seek repatriation to Texas to ease the financial expenses the family is incurring while in New Jersey.
With Henry in Texas, friends and family can take turns for his care allowing John to go back to work and care for his father at the same time.
The drunk driver will go to jail but he is leaving a path of destruction and family in distress, with a complete change of a person's life just for being in his path.
