This summer, my dad and I visited Cusco, Peru. While we were there, we not only taught English to underprivileged citizens, but we also helped out at a local child care / orphanage shelter. When I went to the orphanage, I found out that the babies were not the orphans themselves, but the teenage mothers that were living at the facility were the orphans. They were abandoned by their families after being raped, and so they continued their lives (as best as they could) at the shelter. These young teenage girls were raped at a young age (12-15 years of age). I am trying to raise as much money as possible for the shelter, so that they can afford better living quarters, supplies (i.e. blankets, pillows, toys, books), and medicine (since there is no heat available and the babies get sick very easily). The money would also be going towards education for the teen moms, due to the fact that some of them had to stop attending school in order to take care of their kids. This means a lot to me because I love working with children, and I would love to see these kids and raped teenage mothers being taken care of properly. It also means a lot to me because these young girls were scarred at such a young age, and were therefore not able to live a normal life. I would be so thankful if we could reach our goal of $10,000 so that they can have money to support themselves, as well as enough to support other shelters in the Cusco city.
