Help with Dena's Care

As you may already know, our mom Dena has been living in a small assisted-living home due to dementia/Alzheimer’s and several other health concerns. She currently receives help with daily tasks, medications, 24-hr nursing care and eats good, home-cooked meals. She likes sitting outside watching hummingbirds, enjoying the flowers and spending time with the house cats. She also attends Friendship Center where she enjoys social interaction and activities designed for those experiencing memory loss.
However, the care that Dena requires is costly (five-thousand per month) and we cannot cover the expense. After many months of searching, the only affordable care we can find are low-income Medi-Cal funded nursing homes. These have waiting lists (some several years long) and there are no facilities near Dena’s family or friends. And she is so fragile, moving her would be detrimental to her mental and physical well-being.
After many months of searching for housing, we (with the encouragement of Katrina Cord) have decided to ask for help so that our mom can continue to stay in the home she feels secure in. Watching her health deteriorate is heart-breaking, but knowing she’s in good care helps tremendously.
Since the care has to be paid in advance, we are asking for funding 6 months at a time. All donations that are made will be placed in a special bank account to be used solely for her care. With the money raised, we can ensure that our mom can remain in the home she’s accustomed to and continue to receive the 24-hour care that she needs. We appreciate any and all help.
