James' Sudden Financial Crisis

As some of you know, I'm mentally disabled (as in I subsist primarily on disability payments from the federal government). Earlier this month (the 10th), I received a Disability Update Report that I had to fill out and send back to the Social Security Administration within 30 days. It took me a little while to get all of the info that they needed, due to my doctor being temporarily unavailable, but I got it and sent the form back on the 24th. All good. I thought. Until today.

Today I called to make sure they had received the Disability Update  Report. I discovered that, not only has the postal service not delivered it, but the SSA actually sent me the report form on May 24th. That's right. The postal service managed to misplace it for two and a half weeks enroute to me. So, thanks to the USPS, I might face losing my disability and medical benefits because I didn't return the form inside of the 30 day window. Not that I could have, but hey.

And that's not all!

By some cruel twist of fate, the USPS has also not delivered to me the replacement food stamp (EBT) card I requested a week ago. I have confirmed that it was mailed out on the 23rd and that the absolute maximum mailing time is 7 days. Today was day 7. If it is not here by tomorrow, I have to call and report it as lost and request ANOTHER replacement, but I won't be able to activate that until AFTER the date my benefits post to my account. Which means I won't get them until next month. So, likely, no food assistance for July.

The TLDR version: The USPS may have completely cost me my medical benefits, food benefits, and living wages all in the space of a few hours (well, a month, but I literally found out about all of this in about an hour). That's why I'm running a GoFundMe.

I receive $737 in Social Security Disability Insurance every month. Or did. My campaign goal is exactly three months worth of benefits to help get over the hump in the likely event that my benefits are suspended pending further follow-up paperwork and calls with the Social Security Administration to undo the post office's errors, which I was informed today might take as long as 90 days.

The money raised will be used to take care of day to day living costs; mostly rent, utilities, and food. Nothing fancy.

Don't feel like you have to contribute. I know that a lot of my friends who will see this are in similarly hard spots (or harder spots) financially. But if you can't contribute, please, please, consider sharing - on Facebook, Twitter, by email, wherever, however. I'll be eternally grateful for any assistance rendered, either financial or fraternal.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

Kind Regards,
