Help BLACKBERRY WINTER Go To NYC!!!

Donation protected
Kai Elijah Hamilton here. As some of you may know, I am a writer and director from beautiful Western North Carolina. Recently, my play "BLACKBERRY WINTER" was selected to perform at The Theatre at St. Clement's in NYC as part of the elite Strawberry One-Act Festival. This theatre has held performances by Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Al Pacino, and Harvey Fierstein. Needless to say--I am excited! I have cast the play with wonderful local actors and we are traveling the play up to NYC this July! **You will also get a chance to vote us into the final round by watching BLACKBERRY WINTER On Demand!!! More details including our performance dates and ticket information are on the website www.therianttheatre.com

I remember the last time I was in NYC with my beloved mother who has since passed. I was struck with wonder.  I knew I would be back some day and on her death bed I told her I'd be sure to go to the top of the Empire State Building (a place we visited) again. Knowing she didn't have much longer to live, she simply said "Blow me a kiss...". Now--here I am gearing up to go, doing all the normal hectic prep to direct a play and--We need YOUR help to get there.

The money you graciously donate will go to airfare/van rental, hotel accomodations, food and, of course, taxi costs. There are also some important traveling Set and Prop costs that are needed. The funds are needed as soon as possible in order to book flights/rentals and have everything secured before July.

BLACKBERRY WINTER--is an important play that is set in WNC about an African American mother that stumbles upon a mysterious old house she has been dreaming about. Her intuition says this is the location where her son was kidnapped and held captive years before. When her sister and a local Detective arrive to help, she suspects something even more sinister may have occured.
***The plays metaphor is racism and its intent (among other things) is to open peoples eyes to the fact that it still exists today.

The chance to bring this play to NYC means a lot to me. I feel I have a unique voice that has long since yearned to reach over these Western North Carolina Mountains, that I call home, in order to find a wider audience. I also want to inspire others out there to go for their dreams. These actors are amazing! We would deeply appreciate ANY amount of money to help out. Every dollar counts. No donation is too big or too small. I feel very blessed already and your support will enhance that blessing all-the-more. Please know that I will never forget where I came from or those that helped me along the way.

The arts are far too overlooked in our society and BLACKBERRY WINTER has an important message that needs to be heard. Help make that happen.
