Lowell Vice's Handicap Van Fund

Donation protected
Lowell Vice has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, often called Lou Gehrig's disease after the famed baseball player whose struggle with this disease and death in 1941 brought it national attention. ALS is an incurable, progressive degenerative neurological disorder. For reasons that are not understood, the nerve cells of the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement gradually deteriorate. As a result, muscles waste away, leading to paralysis and death, usually in two to five years. The only nerve cells affected are the lower motor neurons, which control a wide range of things like movement of your limbs, swallowing, and even some aspects of breathing. But the senses and thinking processes remain normal.

In the next month or so, Lowell will be permanently confined to a wheelchair except when in bed. Insurance will assist with the cost. To be able to leave the home, he will need a handicap accessible van with a wheelchair ramp which are very costly and not covered by insurance.

The ALS Association estimate the cost of caring for a ALS patient to be $250,000 per year.  We are trying to help cover the cost of a handicap accessible van with a wheelchair ramp.

So many of us know and love the Vice family and are looking for a way to help them. Any donation you give will  mean the world to them and one less burden for Donna and Lowell to overcome on this heartbreaking journey.
