Global Activism: Service Trip to Brazil

The Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies Department at Virginia Commonwealth University is leading a trip to Brazil in June which is both a service trip and a study abroad trip. The trip will involve both international scholarly work with the chance to engage in meaningful exchanges with Brazilian scholars and activist work with local organizations in Bahia and São Paulo supporting disenfranchised and oppressed populations in Brazil.

While some of the service work is still being finalized, we know we will be working to help organizations set up their own outreach infrastructures and helping out with organizations aimed at helping in the poorer areas of São Paulo.

Unfortunately, the trip was announced past the point of most scholarship deadlines, and those that have not passed are aimed at undergraduates rather than graduate students, so that leaves me trying to raise the money myself in a very short time.

The funds are broken down in the following way:
Program fee: $2400
Tuition: $2000
Airfare: $1400
Incidentals/food: $1000

Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for being willing to help me as I strive to help others.
