Kolt Hoyle is a Promissing 17 year old Downhill Bike competitor from Pemberton BC.
The day he discovered bikes or trikes as the case was, at the age of 2 he has been in love with them. He has dedicated himself to all aspects of biking since that first wild ride down the steep bumpy driveway on his $30.00 trike.
His summers have been consumed with X-country and downhill bike camps on Whisltler MTN, riding with his dad and a great group of friends, fixing and building bikes, and even attempting to teach me, his hapless riding challenged mother enough skills to wobble my way around green trails on our shared X-country bike.
This spring his dream of getting sposored a Downhill Bike was achieved. A company from Germany called the CUBE most generously sent him a beautifull new bike!
So he and his dad signed him up for every race possible within budget and time constraints and have been driving all over the province to compete.
Thus far he has placed 1st twice, 2nd twice and 3rd in the BC cup in the junior sport 17-18yr catagory, as well as placing well in the local Phat Wednesday races.
I took him to his last race at Silverstar Mtn, Vernon BC, for August 7th 2016. We had an exciting weekend and he placed 3rd. On our way home Kolts bike was stolen, bolt cutters were used to cut through the reportedly uncuttable cable and his amazing bike was pinched in Kamloops!
Survielance cameras caught the perpatrator but the police think it unlikely it will be recovered. We drove around for hours hoping to spot the bike, and canvassed all over the surrounding neighbourhoods (some kind of scetchy looking places), showing photos and telling the story to anyone who would listen, but to no avail.
Although this bike is sponsored, its worth about $9000 retail, he is reponsible for a portion of that cost which we estimate to be $4000.00, most likely that would have been covered by the sale of this bike sometime in the near future. We are most grateful to Cube and want to be able to continue this relationship.
We are grappling with how to fullfill this obligation and replacing this bike so that Kolt can continue to pursue this dream which is so important for his developement and confidence as grows into a healthy contributing, responsible man.
This is not a familiar thing for us but we are reaching out to friends and community for help to at least cover our financial commitment to Cube, we hope to raise this $4000.
Thank you to all who take the time to read this. No amount is too small and we will be eternally appreciative for any donation possible. Please help Kolt continue this worthwhile journey.
