Doctoral Conducting Recital

My name is Alyssa Cossey, and I am a doctoral student in Choral Conducting at Michigan State University, Go Green!!
On October 1, 2016, as a requirement for completion of my degree, I will perform a doctoral conducting recital at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lansing, MI. The recital will feature choir and orchestra and must include at least 60 minutes of music. While the recital is an exciting and meaningful experience, it is also an incredibly large financial undertaking for a full-time graduate student without financial support.
While recitals can cost up to $10,000 depending on size and location, I am hoping to keep the cost as low as possible. That being said, there are several expenses that cannot be skipped. In addition to purchasing music for 30+ singers and paying for an orchestra for two-rehearsals and a performance, I also need to pay for the performance venue, an accompanist to play at choral rehearsals and the performance, food for the singers at two rehearsals, and a professional video and audio recording of the event. Because recordings of my work as a conductor are required for job applications, they are invaluable to the process of acquiring a job after completing my degree.
My hope is that, by starting my fundraising early, I will be able to determine how many orchestral players I can afford to hire and I can finish selecting repertoire that will feature as many great MSU performers as possible.
Some of the repertoire that has already been selected includes Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and Bach's Canata 61 Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland.
This project is not only a requirement for my degree but also an extremely important step in my personal and professional growth. I cannot do it alone. Only with the support of my friends and lovers of the arts will I be able to meet this goal and continue on the path to completing my final degree and move on to the next chapter in my life.
Every little bit counts. Any donation, regardless of size, would be appreciated. $5 will help me buy two copies of music, $30 will cover the cost of music for one singer. Whatever you can give, or however you can help will be so appreciated, even if it is simply sending well wishes!!
