J Shields' Final Costs and Memorial

J Lynn Shields is a lot of things to a lot of people - friend, sister, daughter, cousin, beloved beer slinger, trusted confidant, accidental sparring partner, a badass with a heart of gold who would give you the shirt off her back without a second thought.


There's not enough words to describe J and what she means to a giant patchwork of friends and family across the country or what her sudden absence means to those of us who lost her. We do know she'd want us to suck it up, pick ourselves up and move along the best we can.


This fundraiser is designed to help Brooke Shields-Betancur and family cover costs associated with J's passing. Medicaid will cover a large percentage of J's hospital stay before her passing, but family will be left with a sizable bill associated with her hospitalization as well as cremation services, memorial services and transportation for out of state close family who needed to travel to Chicago this past week and next week for the memorial.

We all know J would be quite unhappy at the thought of leaving behind any sort of financial burden so let's make sure we step up in her stead to help her family cover these costs and throw a memorial worthy of our girl - memorial is in the works for Tuesday, June 28th so save the date and stay tuned for more details.

Any additional funds raised past the medical bills and memorial will be donated to the Chicago Women's Health Center, a Chicago-based organization that supplies sliding scale mental health care for those in need.
