Island Yarn is moving to Maynard!

Donation protected
Hello my knitting and crocheting friends!

Here's the short story, since some of you are short on time (or have to get back to your knitting).

Because of the wild increase (double) on rent, Island Yarn has to relocate.  We've found a fantastic location in the gorgeous town of Maynard and even though this process started with panic and sadness, we are thrilled and excited about our new space and location.  Moving gets pricey though (and stings a bit more in slower summer months) and so we are hoping that you might help.  Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated!!

But of course....there's a much longer story (of you have the time).  In 2006, I was just your average obsessive knitter...knitting everything and everywhere.  Island Yarn was my local store...just around the corner from my apartment.  The then-owner needed to sell the store, and though I loved her dearly, she had a buyer, and the store would continue and all was well.  Then, that fell through.

She has asked me (and everyone) if they wanted to buy a yarn store, and I always laughed it off.  I was a single mother with extremely limited means...keeping a soul sucking job because it enabled me to be pick-up my daughter from elementary school.  When the deal fell through, she called me to come pick up a few things I had left in the store, and I was crushed by the "Closed.   Space for Lease" signs in the window.  That night, I spent a crazed, sleepless night saying, "Could I buy a yarn store?"  "No, I couldn't."  "Yes, I could."  "No, I couldn't."  Just so you all know, this is probably not the best way to make a business decision, but by morning, I had decided.

Texting was sort of newish then.  And she didn't know how.  And probably curses me to this day for make her learn how so that she could respond to my "So, I think I want to buy your store" text.  (I was at work...trying to be all quiet about it, you see?)  And that was that.  Three days later, we were sorted and Island Yarn was back!

Over the years, I can't tell you what a crazy and fun ride it has been.  The number of friendships made, the number of dropped stitches picked up...I can't even begin to count (not that, as a knitter, I'm all that good at counting, but you get the point)!  We taught hundreds of people to knit, help tweak countless patterns, had loads of successful charity events, and had every variety of conversation you can think of, all while making beautiful knitting and crochet.  We've helped find the perfect yarn for everything from classic aran sweater to slug lips (you heard me....slug lips!  Oh...and cat eyeballs).  We had gorgeous KAL's, great yarn fiascos, and our detashing service has taken in and donated over a TON of yarn!

Several years ago, we launched our own line of locally dyed yarns which continue to be the most popular in the store and we get endless glee from seeing them grow up from nice little hanks into wonderful finished projects.  Moving to Maynard with my dye studio (aka...laundry room) will be the final step in this moving process and may end up being even more costly than moving the store.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support, through the years and into the future.  I know, as great as Island Yarn is, it is going to be even better!
