Help Street Dogs of Domi & Uvita

Donation protected
My name is Sam and I just recently returned to the US from a trip to Costa Rica.  While in Costa Rica, I spent time in Dominical and Uvita and although my experience was wonderful, there are faces of extreme need that I cannot forget - the street dogs and cats.  In the small towns, at the bus stops, and along the major roads, dogs and cats can be seen just about everywhere.  Some are healthy and others are far from it.

One day while walking along the main road through Dominical, I came upon a female dog who was skin and bones, covered in bugs, and missing most of her hair.  Thankfully I had a bag of dog food with me and when I scooped out a handful and placed it on the ground, she hesitated but decided to trust me and stepped forward and began to eat.  She stood there with legs shaking and ate handful after handful of food.  Being in a country other than my own and not sure of the local services, I did not know what to do in the immediate situation.  For days after, I went looking for her, but did not see her.  The day before I left Costa Rica, I went to a vet clinic and spoke with a very nice technician and she told me that she was part of D.A.W.G. (Domestic Animal Welfare Group - https://www.facebook.com/D.A.W.G.DomesticAnimalWelfareGroup/) and that she would help the animals if I could bring them to her.  She explained that there is no shelter there, only a collection of fosters and that she is short-staffed.  I told her that I wanted to help.  In my heart, at that moment, I knew I'd be back.

And go back, I am.  I will be returning to Dominical and Uvita on June 26th and will be staying for two weeks.  During this time, a good friend and I hope to be able to rescue as many dogs and cats as we can, take them to the vet clinic and get them healed, spayed/neutered, and then hopefully either place them with D.A.W.G. fosters or transport them to Land of the Strays (http://barkpost.com/land-of-the-strays-paradise/).

Every penny will go directly to pay vet bills, buy dog food/flea and tick treatment/vaccinations/etc, and help cover the cost to transport the dogs to Land of the Strays.  No donations will be used for my personal travel expenses.

In the future, I'm hopeful that this can grow into additional spay/neuter programs and possibly even humane education, but I made a promise to a dog in Domi and she's where I will begin.

Thank you for helping the dogs and cats of Dominical and Uvita, Costa Rica.
