Baby Jonathan's Journey
Baby Jonathan was born on 4/22/16 @ 8:50pm; weighing in @ 6lbs 7oz & 20 inches long to Michelle & Steven Doel.
Michelle & Steven have had to endure many triumphs to be able to meet their sweet baby. They were told at 20 weeks gestation that Baby Jonathan would have some obsticles to over come, such as enlarged brain ventricles with fluid surrounding them, polyhydramnios, & cysts on the kidneys (with one not functioning).
Michelle was watched very closely with ultrasounds weekly to monitor his fluids on the brain, along with the amniotic fluid. They also went to several nuerological appointments to evaluate Jonathan's enlarged ventricles.
Michelle & Steve, along with everyone around them were cautiously excited to meet him!!
Baby Jonathan arrived & couldn't have been any more perfect. However upon his arrival brought new concerns. Due to his immediate labored breathing, the NICU team responded, but didn't expect to find that this sweet baby was having labored breathing due to another condition called Esophageal Atresia.
Jonathan has been isolated to the NICU, on oxygen, NG tube & PICC to receive any fluids/nutrients needed.
He had an ultrasound done on his brain & kidneys which showed no progression. He is scheduled for what was an unplanned extended stay to have surgical procedure to correct his Esophageal Atresia. This includes 2-4 week recovery period at Baystate Springfield NICU. This will be an unexpected financial burden for both Steve & Michelle. If you can help to support this family in any way it will make all the difference in the world to them!!
