Please help us save our loving mother – plasma cell leukemia
Hello everybody. We are four children of our loving mother from the Ukraine, and we want to save her life, as she has been diagnosed with plasma cell leukemia (cancer of blood plasma cells) 2 years ago. Since the diagnosis, she has been fighting bravely her disease and has received 15 cycles of the chemotherapy in the past 17 months. Unfortunatly, it is not possible to defeat this disease with the chemo alone. The stem cell transplantation is the only option to cure this type of cancer. Our mother´s recent blood test results have shown a positive development towards remission. According to the doctors´ opinion, now is the best time to do the autologous stem cell transplantation. However, the doctors in the Ukraine refused to do this treatment there and strongly recommended to do this abroad, because of her chronic kidney disease (renal insufficiency). The hospitals in Ukraine don´t have the necessary medical facilities to deal with possible urgent transplant complications.
Our mom, Hannah, age 57, got married to our dad Liubomyr, a theological student, when she was 20 years old. She devoted her whole life to her family and children. We are two girls and two boys. We all grew up in the small parish of our father in the western Ukraine. Since her diagnosis, we have experienced our lovely mom as a determined fighter. She constantly argues that her life cannot be over yet and that there must be more to it. She wants to be with her kids and grandkids as long as possible: dancing with the youngest daughter on her wedding, playing with her grandchildren, cooking favorite meals for her sons. She prays and sings a lot. She talks to nature, and hugs the trees. At the same time, of course, we would be also more than happy to be able to share special and everyday life moments with our mother for as long as possible.
In the Ukraine we had to pay for every single previous treatment. Therefore the costs of chemo treatments have brought us to a critical financial situation. Now we have reached the family´s limit of funds and need your help. So far we have managed to do all the preparations for the stem cell transplant at the Asklepios hospital in Hamburg, Germany. Before we can make the final appointment for the transplantation in August of this year, we need to transfer the funds to the hospital. We hope that with your support we will be able to do so, and have our mother fully recovered and around us at Christmas time.

Wir sind vier Kinder aus der Ukraine, die das Leben unserer liebenden Mutter, die seit zwei Jahren an Plasmazellenleukämie erkrankt ist, retten wollen. Seit der Diagnosestellung kämpft sie sehr tapfer mit ihrer Erkrankung und hat schon 15 Zyklen der Chemotherapie hinter sich, jedoch lässt sich diese Erkrankung mit der Chemotherapie leider nicht bekämpfen. Nach Aussage der Ärzte ist die Transplantation der eigenen Stammzellen zurzeit die einzige Option, diese Krankheit zu besiegen. Die letzten Ergebnisse der Blutuntersuchungen zeigen eine positive Entwicklung in Richtung Remission. Die Ärzte sehen jetzt den besten Zeitpunkt für eine Stammzellentherapie. Eine Transplantation der eigenen Stammzellen würde das Leben unsere Mutter retten können. Aufgrund ihrer chronischen Nierenerkrankung, einer Niereninsuffizienz, weigern sich die Ärzte in der Ukraine, diese Transplantation dort durchzuführen und empfehlen dieses im westlichen Ausland zu tun. Die Intensivstation in der Ukraine ist nicht so gut ausgestattet, als dass dort mit den möglichen Komplikationen der Transplantation sicher umgegangen werden könnte.
Unsere Mutter, Hannah, 57, heiratete unseren Vater Liubomyr, einen Theologiestudenten, als sie 20 Jahre alt war. Sie widmete ihr ganzes Leben ihrer Familie und den Kinder. Wir sind zwei Mädchen und zwei Jungen und wuchsen in der kleinen Gemeinde unseres Vaters in der westlichen Ukraine auf. Seit der Diagnose haben wir unsere Mutter als entschlossene Kämpferin erlebt. Sie behauptet fest, dass ihr Leben noch nicht vorbei sein könne. Sie will mit ihren Kindern und Enkelkindern noch so lange wie möglich zusammen sein: Mit der jüngsten Tochter auf ihrer Hochzeit tanzen, mit ihren Enkelkindern spielen und Lieblingsmahlzeiten für ihre Söhne kochen können. Sie betet und singt viel. Sie spricht mit der Natur, liebt Blumen und umarmt Bäume und bittet um Lebensenergie. Natürlich würden auch wir uns sehr glücklich schätzen, jeden besonderen und auch alltäglichen Augenblick unseres Lebens mit ihr teilen zu können.
Unsere Familie hat bis jetzt für jede einzelne Behandlung in der Ukraine zahlen müssen, deshalb erreichen wir eine Grenze, was unsere finanziellen Mittel angeht und deswegen brauchen wir Ihre Hilfe. Wir haben alle Vorbereitungen für die Transplantation getroffen und es geschafft, an der Asklepios-Klinik in Hamburg einen Termin für die Entnahme der Stammzellen zu bekommen. Bevor wir die endgültige Transplantation im August dieses Jahres durchführen können, müssen wir in Vorkasse gehen. Wir hoffen sehr, dass wir mit Ihrer Unterstützung in der Lage sein werden, dies zu tun, damit wir unsere Mutter vollständig erholt zur Weihnachtszeit zu Hause haben.
