Help for Bec

We are friends and neighbors of Bec, who want to help her realize her potential and acquire the skills she needs to succeed in college and life in general.
Bec has had extreme challenges in life and has worked hard to surmount them to get to this point.
Diagnosed with Aspergers at a young age, Bec was bullied and did not have friends throughout the elementary and secondary years of school.
Bec's mother, a single parent, was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease in 2011. The family is on public assistance and their house is in foreclosure.
Thanks to Bec's mother's unflagging advocacy along with support of teachers, counselors and family friends, Bec will be graduating from high school next week and going on to college this fall.
To be successful in college and beyond, Bec needs training in executive function skills, the skills that assist in the daily self-help skills that many take for granted.
We're raising funds for Bec to attend a program called College Internship Program (CIP), a program designed to help young people with Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, and learning differences make successful transitions from adolescence to young adulthood. CIP gives young adults the tools to become productive members of society.
Bec has been accepted to for their 2 week summer session in Amherst, NY, beginning on July 17th.
The cost of the program is $5,000. We were able to have the $100.00 application fee waived, and have applied for a $500 grant from the local Autism Society. To insure that we'll have enough for the tuition in case we don't get the grant, and to cover additional fees, we are trying to raise $5,500 total by July 17th at the latest.
Bec is an extremely intelligent, unique and creative person who has a lot of promise to realize her potential and deserves a chance to try.
We are proud of her and hope you will help us in giving her a chance to succeed.
Thank you!
