Possum, the Italian Greyhound

Possum was found on the side of the road on 6/14/16 in Augusta County Va, by Good Samaritans Claire and Patrick Covington, eating trash. Out for a motorcycle ride on a nice evening, they observed several cars swerving around the tiny dog, not stopping. They stopped for what they first assumed was a baby deer. They soon found he was a severely emaciated, senior Italian Greyhound. Claire scooped him up and insisted her husband come back with the car so they could get him to safety.
Unsure where to take him, but knowing a couple folks who do rescue, they brought him to the home of Scottie & Bob Hamer, fosters for East Coast Gentle Giants, shortly thereafter.
Possum was immediately deemed to be in severe starvation mode and suffering from other ailments, such as cataracts and horribly rotten teeth, as well as fleas and skin abrasions (and who knows what else...he is currently at the vet, where extensive testing is being done). But this little love bug wanted only to be held and cuddled, and food, of course. He was so very thirsty and hungry.
We are not sure how this tiny fella came to be on the side of a highway, scavenging for food, nor do we care. He is now in caring hands and under the careful and insightful care of Dr. Terri Sears of TenderCare Veterinary in Fishersville, Va. He has numerous medical issues needing to be addressed, not the least of which being that he is half the weight he should be for an Iggy.
His fosters are deeply committed to bringing him back to health, for however long he has left on this earth, and because his needs are extensive, would appreciate your generous donation to facilitate his restoration to good health.
His LOVE is covered now. We just need your help to restore his health. Please consider donating to this tiny old man who has been through so much, but his will to live and overcome is immense.
