Medical mission trip to Greece

Donation protected
Hi everybody

I'm an Internist in the University of Pennsylvania Health Systems. I will be traveling to Greece in the third week of July to provide much needed medical care to the Syrian refugees at the Greek-Macedonian border.

I have volunteered with SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society) in November 2015 in Jordan. I was actually planning on doing another mission only after a year - however the need for physicians and medical care is so desperate - that I couldn't ignore it anymore.

I am aware that many of you would like to be able to volunteer but are limited by work schedules, young kids, family, finances and other societal obligations. I am uniquely blessed in that my children are older and this year my daughter who just turned 21 decided to join me. She is a communications major and wants to accompany me to give "voice to the volunteers" and make their stories heard. She hopes that her stories and photo visuals will change somebody's mind enough to take action.

All the money I am raising will go towards buying much needed medications, wound care supplies, suture kits, feminine supplies, infant formula, dental hygiene supplies, shoes and anything else that is desperately needed at the time.

Am I nervous? Yes I am! The coordinators told me that they have very few doctors during that week. However it's not the amount of patients and the work load that scares me but the fact that I won't have my friends and colleagues to brain storm or ask a quick question about pediatric dosing. I will also miss having someone to lean on when I need an "emotional break". But then I remind myself / my respite will be when I sit in the tents of the refugees and listen to their stories and assure them that they are worthy of a physician's time and effort and that the world has not forgotten or forsaken them!

I intend to do the best I can with my hands, my head and my heart. I hope you can help me meet my goals.

I will be traveling with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) again. You can donate directly to them (501c3 charity) or with me on this site (I am not a tax deductable organization).
