A Reliable Vehicle for Kelsey

My name is Megan Dalbec and I am looking to raise money for a lovely lady and one of my dearest friends Kelsey Peterson. Kelsey suffered a spinal cord injury 4 years ago, is now paralyzed from the chest down, and is only able to move about with the help of her power chair. I am looking to raise money to aid in the purchase of a RELIABLE vehicle for Kelsey.
Last week the two of us set out on a road trip to Madeline Island Wisconsin in her current handicap accesible van. This 4 hour journey quickly turned into an all day ordeal with the numerous problems that presented themselves due to the unreliable nature of her current vehicle. Not only is it an inconvenience, its Kelsey's safety that really creates a concern.
Two times during our trip the battery died and needed to be jumped (at age 28 I finally learned how to jump a car) as well the air conditioning went out which normally would not be such a problem however Kelsey is unable to regulate her body temperature and therefore on the 90 degree Minnesota day we found ourselves once in the beer cooler at Insight brewery (Thanks to Brian the lovely owner who was so hospitable) and a second time in a walk- in-cooler at a gas station along the road (again a wonderful worker who allowed Kelsey access). This is an extremely dangerous situation for Kelsey because she could pass out from heat exhaustion while driving and God knows I would not like to find out what happens next. Amongst other things, the ramp that she needs to enter and exit the vehicle only operates on certain occasions. You can see how this would cause some problems in the common occasion where Kelsey is traveling alone.
My goal is to raise money for Kelsey to purchase a reliable vehicle so as to assert her independence and to provide everyone who cares for her some reassurance that she is safe when going on her many adventures! 100% of the money raised will be allotted toward the purchase and maintenance of a vehicle.
