Olympic Dream Includes My Parents
I'm Nico Hernandez, and I am honored to be representing the USA in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. I will be boxing in the 49 kg Light Flyweight division. The USOC is paying for my trip, however they do not allot any money for travel for my family.
I am excited to be one step closer to accomplishing my dream of being an Olympic Gold Medalist, and I would love to have my parents there supporting me. I do not like to ask for help because I believe in hard work, not handouts. However, there is no way my parents can make this trip without some support. I am trying to raise $8500 to pay for them to see me box in Rio.
My dad has been my coach ever since I started boxing at 9-years-old. My mom has always been in the stands cheering the loudest out of anyone. I can usually hear her over my coaches! The only reason I have made it this far is because of them. It would mean the world to me if they are there in Rio for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my family. I am proud to say I am from Wichita, KS.
