On June 15th, 2016, the Gladney family lost their little buddy, Gavyn, age 7. He left behind his parents, his Papa, and his Auntie.
Gavyn's mother, Amy, cared for him 24/7. Gavyn was nonverbal, cognitively impaired, partially blind, still in diapers, and not able to do a lot of things other children his age could do, but he was filled with joy and loved to run, laugh and sing. He used to hum the tune "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," and had recently begun to learn to clap his hands and say "oh oh oh!" to the song "Bingo." He was full of love and brought so much joy and love to his family. Gavyn was born just two months before the passing of Amy's mother, and having Gavyn to care for gave a grieving family joy and purpose. Amy lived for Gavyn, and his loss was beyond devastating.
Unfortunately, caring for Gavyn was also his mom's only source of income. Upon his death, Amy lost his disability income, her Medicaid coverage, housing, food stamps, and income for being his full-time caregiver. Even all put together, it wasn't much, but now she's left with nothing.
Amy is paralyzed with grief, but she has realized that she wants to dedicate her life to caring for other disabled children. It's the only way she can imagine going on with her life. In the meantime, she is without money to live on while she gets the necessary certifications and figures out how she's going to live in the future.
