Help me bury Bridget
Donation protected
My name is Vivian and I serve as guardian for incompetent adults with mental health and developmental disability challenges in North Carolina.
My ward, Bridget, passed away on December 22, 2020 from complications from sickle cell. I learned 2 days before she passed away that she absolutely did not want to be “burned up” (cremated) when she passed. Along with sharing that she also shared that She wanted a funeral so badly that she took out a life insurance policy in October 2019 to pay for her burial. Bridget, who lived on $750 a month, dedicated $80 a month of her meager funds to pay for that policy.
When Bridget passed, I had her taken to a funeral home in Plymouth, NC (where she spent much of her youth) and went about trying to locate this policy. This was quite a challenge as she was very paranoid, especially the last few months from being isolated due to Covid-19
Well after a lot of detective work over several weeks, I found her policy. It was with a heavy heart that I found that her policy had to be in effect for two years before It would pay for the cost of a funeral. Turns out all she has available is about $2,500. Ironically, just barely enough to be cremated.
So that is why I am here on this Go Fund me page. Before I give up on Bridget’s wish to be buried and not “burned up” I want to try and raise enough money for a burial.
I asked the Funeral Home what the minimum amount I would need to bury her. That amount is $6,000. Someone who knew her donated a burial plot in a local cemetery which saved a small amount.
If you have read this far, can you help me bury Bridget? Any amount will help.
