Andy's Animal Acres Farm Fundraiser

My name is Andréa aka " Andy"
I own a little petting farm called Andy's Animal Acres on the Naramata Bench in Penticton .
I opened the farm to the public in the spring of 2013 with the dream of sharing my passion for animals with as many people as possible in our community and visitors to the region . Being a mom I also saw a need for more wholesome experiences for children as they grow up in a time of computers and electronics . Nothing much is real and tactile any more and I feel this is a detriment to humanity's future in many ways . Our farm is more about education and therapy for all ages . We have also manifested in to doing a lot of animal rescue and rehabilitation more than anything. The SPCA even refers people to us now . With no outside funding , donation or grants we rely on our short open season and admissions to generate revenue to keep the farm afloat . After 4 seasons operating this way we have come to realize that the numbers just don't work and I am burnt out .
We built the farm on mostly recycled second hand materials with the hope to upgrade and expand as the income allowed . Fencing is falling apart and winters are long without underground water or power and proper seasonal housing .
The straw that broke the camels back was one of our main trees coming down on Sunday night in a storm. It was the tree that protected our rescue rabbit area from the elements . Then another phone call came in to take on another " mini pig " someone cannot keep and a call about an orphan goat ( we have already raised 7 orphans this year ) . Also just found a mama cat and litter of kittens in rough shape that we are raising with the help of the SPCA .
Each summer since opening I have quit my job to run the farm with the hopes of making my passion also in to a viable business but overheads are high . Feed , veterinary , insurance etc .
This campaign is reaching out the public near and far to help with better animal housing / fencing and the ability to continue to grow the farm for generations of people to visit each season and hopefully leave with a greater understanding and respect for these beautiful animals. They have so much to offer us humans on a journey in life .
