Help For The Yorkie! 2 Broken Legs

Donation protected
I am the Operations Manager at Baywater Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter in Cambridge, MD. Today was one of the most difficult days I've had at the shelter since I started full time just over a year ago. Just before closing, a gentleman called us about surrendering his 11 month old Yorkie after he was injured very badly and he couldn't afford the medical care necessary. He left the dog with someone to watch and something went terribly wrong. He received a call and came back to get the Yorkie and he had two badly broken front legs.He took him to the vet only to find out that he couldn't afford to get him treated. He needs orthopedic surgery and the estimates that he received so far are in the $4000-$6000 range. He couldn't even afford the cost of splinting the legs. He purchased a few pain pills and gave us a call. At 6:45pm, there wasn't much calling we could do tonight, but we couldn't let this dog suffer. The owner didn't want him to suffer either and knew he couldn't help "Dutchie." He signed him over to us tonight and we will begin his treatment tomorrow.Unfortunately, we need lots of help quickly if we are going to be able to offer "Dutchie" the best chance of a good recovery. Bones start healing quickly, so we have to know what route of treatment (splinting and hoping for the best healing or plates via an orthopedic surgeon) we can afford to take. We have to make some big decisions for Dutchie in the morning and if we can get his story out there, maybe a miracle can happen.I don't want to be too graphic, but this little guy has both front legs broken (both bones in each) completely. The bone in one leg is almost at a 90 degree angle. He is on pain medicine but just seems to want to be held and snuggled. The conservative estimates will probably be $3,500 - $4,500 with the possibility of it being more. We certainly don't have an extra $4,000 - $5,000 in our medical budget - we are over budget on medical expenses this year. So we are asking for your help - make a donation to help with Dutchie's treatment. Maybe you can't afford to - then how about just share this and help that way. Every little bit helps. We will post updates on Dutchie's progress as we go along. Thanks for your support!
