Help Zuli get treatment for liver shunts

Hi everyone! I’m fundraising money to potentially save my dog Zuli’s life. He’s a 5 month old Australian shepherd. Since I brought Zuli home, he’s been very sick yet still a joyful ball of energy. We were aware he had heart worms from the start, and took a chance with him. Even though he was so young and small and it was likely he wouldn’t make it through treatment, our boy pulled through and survived. However, we started to notice even after treatment he was vomiting at least once a day, often 5-6 times, and had a cough. These symptoms would keep him up all night. His vet diagnosed him with a respiratory infection, and he took antibiotics and was put on a special gastroenteric diet. This helped with his cough, yet Zuli continued to throw up daily. We were told this may just be anxiety, or that he was eating too fast. Almost two months went by and he wasn’t doing any better. He developed a rash on his lower abdomen and a small pustule. He was taken to the ER vet, where we were told it was just a minor infection. However, the vet mentioned he is abnormally small in size for his age and breed. He hadn’t gained barely any weight since we brought him home. We were referred to a new vet. Before taking Zuli to the new vet, he developed even more worrying symptoms. He was having bloody stools which turned into bloody diarrhea, and was throwing up much more forcefully, only to cough up small amounts of bile and his food. Before he threw up easily, where now he sounded very much in pain. He would whine through the night, and again was taken to an emergency vet. This vet took Zuli’s concerns seriously, and he underwent diagnostic blood testing, a GI panel, bile test, x-rays, and an ultrasound. This testing revealed that Zuli has two congenital portosystemic shunts. After spending all of our savings and maxing out our credit for Zuli’s diagnostics, he began doing worse. He started urinating excessively and became very lethargic. He wasn’t eating or drinking, but having to urinate every 5 minutes or so, more than he’d ever gone before. He was rapidly declining and was rushed to the emergency vet once again. We were hit with another $6,000 bill to stabilize him and do even more diagnostics at the emergency vet. Currently he is being medicated and on a new diet, and we are hopeful for his recovery. He has been so strong throughout all of it, and we’re confident that he can make it through. While surgery may not be an option, we are seeking help paying for his medication, medical bills, and new diet. If enough funds are raised, we can either get him a clamp or litigation. Zuli, although he’s been through so much, has remained strong throughout it all and we are so proud of him. His new diet and medication are keeping him stable, and we are hoping to keep him healthy enough until we’re able to afford him surgery.
