Global Health Medical Trip to Peru

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,
I have been blessed with an opportunity this coming September and want to take the time to share it with each of you and am asking for your support.
I have just started my third semester in the Masters of Nursing program at Augusta University (formerly Medical College of Georgia) and was one of the lucky few selected and approved to participate in the Global Health Nursing medical trip to Cusco, Peru this coming fall. The focus of this medical trip is the provision of Women’s Health Services, where we (nursing students) will be working alongside physicians and other nurses to provide women’s health screenings. These health screenings are provided free of charge to the impoverished and indigenous women of the region as an early detection for cervical and breast cancers. We will be working with the organization CerviCusco, whose primary focus is preventing women’s cancer in Peru, since Peruvian women have one of the highest rates of cervical cancer in the world. As many of you already know, I lived and worked in Spain for two years. It is during this time I developed a love for the Spanish language, engaging in culture, and a heart for working internationally. I wish to use this time to develop each of these specific traits even further, but I wish to use this experience to do it within a medical context, because this is the career I have chosen to pursue. We are so incredibly blessed in the United States for the health care system we have compared to the rest of the world and CerviCusco aims to help bring some of these benefits and screenings we take for granted in the U.S. to those who need them most in the world. I want to be a part of this and use what abilities I have to help these Peruvian women, and also build connections to hopefully one day return to working internationally.
Financially, the trip will cost a total of $2,950 dollars in order to make it possible. I have already paid an initial $200 deposit to hold my position. Now, I need to raise the remaining funds ($2,750) and pay the entire balance by July 1st. This will cover flights, most transportation, and some meals. My program suggests needing a few hundred dollars more than this to cover all food and travel expenses but this portion I am happy to cover myself if I can raise the remaining amount. This is where I am turning to my friends, family, and community for support. I know this is a very short time period to try to raise the funds, however I am going to give it my best effort. I would love any financial, emotional, and spiritual support you can offer throughout this process! As finances are the largest concern at the moment, any financial contributions you may be able to offer, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated!
