Keep Damien in his home!

Damien Evans is a son, caregiver, brother, teacher and friend and he needs some help after losing his mother recently.  

Damien was caregiver to his father and then his mother for 14 years. During this time, I was lucky enough to meet him when he was my choir director. He was always willing to spend extra time with anyone who needed it. And he was able to pull amazing performances out of shy, challenged, but hard working singers. I have never seen a more patient and dedicated music teacher.  

In 2015 he suffered a terrible fall and broke both elbows. He has undergone 27 surgeries to help repair his arms, but sadly, the doctors had to amputate his right arm, due to infection and septic shock. The church he was working for decided they had to let him go because he could no longer play the piano. He has since had more problems with the remaining portion of his right arm and his left has weakened until he is only supposed to lift only 5 pounds. During his mother’s long illness, Damien was always seeking work, but with his severely limited upper body strength, he has been unable to find anything, despite applying for hundreds of jobs.  

Even with one arm, and the lifting restrictions, he was able to care for his weakening mother until the end. She passed only a few months ago, and Damien is left disabled, jobless and without her social security to help with the bills, he is now facing homelessness. We have sought help from dozens of organizations, but he does not qualify for one reason or another. He is currently on the wait list for public housing, but that can take months. He needs $2,000 per month to stay in his apartment or he will be homeless. 

Please, if you can, consider giving to a person who has given all of himself to help others, and now needs some help himself.
