Thanks to the generosity of over 50 donors, Zoeys leg was saved by a country vet in Surrey, MI, several hours from the metro Detroit area, for a third of the price quoted by others.
Today we came home from the laundromat to find her leg broken again, a tooth-sized bone shard in the bed, and an open wound with bone exposed.
EDIT: The Dr. examined her and said that wasnt a bone shard but the actual pin came out. The pin is supposed to be removed once the fracture is healed. The fracture is not fully healed. Dr. Wilson said sometimes the pin pushes out through the skin.
Again we called all over the region looking for affordable and available help. We found that at Wilson's Veterinary in Romeo, MI, who quoted $1100 up to $2000 for amputation.
EDIT: The Dr. wants to try removing the remaining pin and see if it completes healing or it refractures. He said its not ideal timing since he isnt happy with the healing progress thus far, but we should try this before amputating. I have attached pictures of the new estimate invoice which came in much lower than the phone estimate since its not broken again as I thought and amputation isnt indicated yet, but could still be possible in future.
I have been unemployed since September 2019, after another complicating back injury took me out. I am disabled and successfully applied for Social Security Disability on Nov 30, after many failed attempts.
I have had zero earned income in 2020 and have survived with help from unemployment and the goodwill of friends and strangers.
Other than this old lady's fragile bones, she is in general good health for her age. She eats well, bodily functions are in order, and she still has the same old rambunctious playfulness I have grown to adore.
They say cats have 9 lives. Can you help give my tender and sweet companion her third life, so that she doesnt have to cross the rainbow bridge to doggy heaven quite yet?
Please and thankyou in advance.
