My husband, Michael K. Brooks is recovering from a gunshot wound received during a road rage incident in Memphis, TN on Oct 17, 2020. Kenny suffered lacerations to both kidneys, and a spinal cord injury due to a L1 burst fracture that left him with paraplegia, along with other injuries.
Kenny required 6 units of blood to save his life during emergency surgery to stop bleeding. Two surgeries were required to repair his spine.
Sensation and some movement returned quickly allowing Kenny to enter an acute rehab program. However, the initial immobility and severe nerve pain led to a bed sore requiring more surgeries. The expected discharge date is sometime in January. Kenny will continue rehab as an outpatient.
So many are following our daily Facebook updates. Your prayers and encouragement are keeping us going. Some have asked, "What we do we need?" Our financial need isn't immediately known but the emotional burden of keeping the bills paid can be lifted as we continue on this journey to our new normal.
