Help with Alfred’s Vet Bills

Hi everyone, and I am fundraising to help pay vet bills for my cat Alfred who I adopted recently from the Columbia County Animal Shelter. Alf came to me in a very sad time in my life, as my cat Kaz had been missing and I was going to the shelter to investigate a found cat that resembled my lost boy at the shelter where Alfred was. The cat turned out not to be my Kaz, but while there I noticed a poor kitten who had been brought in as a stray cowering in the litter box at the back of his cage with a wound on his nose. As the shelter worker told me his story of being a stray who has been attacked by something and brought in by someone, my heart hurt for Alf. I just felt like we needed each other in that moment, so I took him home that day, and he had been by my side ever since. Around three nights ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to Alf vomiting several times throughout the night into the morning, and later noticed he had not been using the litter box. I hoped that he had just eaten his food too fast that evening at dinner, but as meal time came and went that morning he was completely indifferent to his food, which is totally unheard of for Alfred. As the day went on, I called my normal vet to no answer, and became more and more lethargic and uninterested in even moving. I called my vet 5+ in an hour, but after receiving no answer I made the decision to take him to St. Francis Animal Hospital nearby. Once they accepted him as a drop off appointment, they called to update me on the examination to see what was wrong with Alfred, but could find nothing upon the initial exam. They asked me to okay the cost and ordered several tests and an x-ray, but still found no cause for Alf’s illness except for a large amount of stool stuck in his colon. Because he was a shelter pet, they found flea dirt on him and included flea medication in his treatment, which added even more to cost. Eventually they allowed him to be sent home with fluids and anti nausea medication, alongside directions to monitor him overnight to make sure he passed stool and did not continue vomiting. I was told. If Alfred did not pass stool, he should return in the morning. The next morning I returned to St. Francis with Alfred for him to receive a laxative injection with the reassurance that he should be having a bowel movement any time. Immediate upon arrival home, my poor Alf vomited several more times, and the only solution I was offered by St. Francis was to feed him pumpkin to help him pass stool, even though I told them he refused food and was becoming increasingly lethargic. I called repeatedly as he became more sick, and eventually they just told me that they had no idea what was making Alfred so ill, and recommended taking him to an emergency animal hospital in Columbia, SC. I immediately called the animal hospital, CVETS, in Columbia and informed them of the situation. They were not sent any of Alfred’s records by the previous hospital, so i was basically filling in all the blanks myself on his treatment and everything. They took Alf in, did more x-rays and bloodwork, only to say they needed to keep him overnight for extra care along with an ultrasound in the morning due to something suspicious spotted in his small intestine. As it stands, Alfred is in CVETS awaiting his ultrasound today. This has been three days, and almost two thousand dollars in just trying to identify the problem, which has not yet been determined with any sort of certainty. With costs sitting at $1,781.92 so far, I can only expect them to grow with additional care. I love my cat, and will do anything to make sure Alfred is treated with everything the vet recommends for his care, but I am also a college student who has recently suffered from housing instability and sometimes severely cut hours at work. Just this week I was only given a total of 5.5 hours of work, which obviously is not enough to sustain a person, much less someone with existing financial strain. These vet bills could put me in an even worse financial situation, and as they only get higher, I have decided to reach out for help. At the moment, my bank account is being wiped clean from paying for my poor Alfred’s care, and I am running out of options. Alfre is so special to me, he is my most constant companion and my best friend. I truly feel that something in the universe brought us together in our mutual times of need, and I will do everything to keep him happy and healthy. At this point, I am practically begging for a life vest to be thrown to Alf and myself. I would be eternally grateful for any help for my boy. Thank you.
