Help build a pain free life.

My friend Jake has a TMJ disorder. TMJ is short for Temporomandibular Join, When the TMJ is not aligned correctly it causes stress on other joints and muscles. This has had Jake in pain for years, But thanks to the luck of 2020 it got to the point of him not being able to see out of an eye and needing surgery. He had his first surgery mid October, and they did a scope to determine that in order to alleviate joint pain they would do a bi-lateral lower orthanathic procedure. During that surgery they put five wires in his mouth, but the muscles in his jaw kept having extreme spasms to the point where it was pulling out screws and wires, eventually re-breaking his lower right jaw. That forced the jaw to fuse incorrectly, the doctors were wanting to get him into the OR ASAP. You now have to take a COVID test before any surgery and when he went to get tested he came back positive. According to hospital policy, testing positive delays the surgery for three weeks. During these three weeks, there was extensive damage done, the jaw fused incorrectly and the joint nerves were extremely stressed causing extreme constant pain. He couldn’t function for two of the three weeks, and they went to the ER just to be told they couldn’t do anything to help due to the COVID protocols. Finally and thankfully they got him into surgery the day before thanksgiving, during this surgery they had to break his jaw in two places and reset it. Installing arch bars on his mouth and sewing the mouth shut with wires. Due to all of this going on, he has been unable to work for up to 12 weeks. He still has to pay for his own surgery’s and deductions from work because he isn’t getting paid. Since these surgery’s, his swelling and pain has been way more intense than when this started, causing difficulty to breath and sleep, luckily he has started a medication that is helping with that. Jake and his wife AuLora have been so stressed out about how they are going to just get by with all these unplanned medical bills. I hope that this can help them have the room to breathe and live stress/pain free.
