Matty E has been infected with Covid -19 and he is only 52.
We all know Matt and can play six degrees of separation to how we first met him. You either grew up with him on Harrison street, played Football at Frankford Boys Club, or went to Frankford High school with him. But the connections do not stop there. He went on to play Olney Eagles football and rough touch. He loves the game so much. He also coached football at George Washington High school, Northeast High school, and Philadelphia Blue Flame Football.
He has a smile that lights up a room.
He is someone we all refer to as Frankford Strong! He is a worker. Never one to sit back and relax he held many jobs. Some while he put himself through Temple University. You may have known him as your bartender at the Ould Sod, The Harrington’s, The Rhawn Pub, Lazy Joe’s, Curran’s, The Rooster or Seaport Pier to name a few.
Matt married his beautiful wife Karen and they have 2 children. Jenna and Matt.
Matt became ill with the Covid virus. He spent approximately a week at the local hospital before his conditions worsened and his breathing was labored to the point that he needed to be intubated. His doctors felt he needed more than a ventilator. He was transferred down to Presbyterian Hospital where he is now on an ECMO machine. An ECMO machine or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is a heart lung machine. It is a therapy that adds oxygen to their blood and pumps it through their body like the heart would do. ECMO temporarily takes over the work of the heart and lungs so they can rest and heal.
This is only the beginning of what will be a long road to recovery but as we all know ME19 is a fighter and Frankford strong!
This go fund me page was created to alleviate the financial pressures but also as a way for all of his many friends and family to help in any way they can. A small act of kindness but it can ripple out and create an ocean of prosperity in his family’s world.
