Kida

Hello everyone!

Last night, Kida (Being the "Too smart for her own good" puppy that she is) figured out how to unlatch her crate from inside. She proceeded to have a heyday with a box of papers that I had been storing for a friend, little did I know that inside the box was a bottle of prescription pain killers that were long expired, but still dangerous.

When I got home Kida was acting lethargic, was puking, and was just in overall not her best shape. I saw the pills and started crying and immediately googled how to make a dog vomit. I proceeded to give her two tsp of hydrogen peroxide and rushed her to the emergency vet.

Once we got to the vet, they rushed her into the back and my long waiting game started. At about 12:30 am, they were able to tell me what was happening. They were attempting to flush her system and feed her charcoal, but she would need to stop puking first. They said that the painkillers that she happened to get into were some of the worst that dogs could have and that her kidneys had a high chance of failure. They prompted me to say my goodbyes, and let me know that no news was good news.

With tear filled eyes, a lot of snorting, and snot literally dripping from my face I held Kida, hugged her tight, kissed her a thousand times, and told her I was so sorry and that I loved her more than anything. I said goodbye, and walked out as she was crying for me to come back.

The next few hours were horrible and I hardly slept, and at 7:00 this morning I received a phone call. The number was blocked, and I was terrified it was bad news. I sat and watched it ring. When I finally answered the woman on the phone let me know that Kida was alive, but that her Kidneys and liver were in bad shape. I was crying, but I vowed to do everything in my power to help my little girl, which is where we are now.

Kida will need to stay in the hospital for 72 hours total, which is equal to roughly $950 dollars a day,  they are monitoring her, and checking her blood every 12 hours, which is an additional cost. She is eating a heavy diet of chicken and charcoal to try and release the toxins and clear out her body. If the liver and Kidney do not start showing signs of improvement, the next step would be to start Dialysis on them, which is another &4000 to start, and $500 per session three times a week until she is better.

I can not give up on my little girl, but unfortunately myself, my family, and my friends do not have that kind of money on a whim, as all money is due at time of service and I was declined for a Carecredit card.

If anyone at all, could please help Kida, just a little bit, I would be forever grateful. I really, cannot, lose my best friend. My house is so empty without her, my muscle reflexes keep wanting to fill her water bowl and her food dish, there is no one leaning on me or licking my knees.  I honestly am feeling so lost and helpless at this time.

Kida is the absolute sweetest and most genuine dog I have ever met. She smiles when shes excited, she gets the Zoomies on the daily, she picks her own toys out of the toy box, she loves to lick and to eat hair, her tail wags a thousand miles a minute when she sees little kids because she loves how they play...and she wants nothing more than to sit and cuddle with me, her favorite thing is to be held like a baby.... except it always makes her sneeze! What I would do for her to sneeze all over me, I will never take it for granted again.

Thank you so much for all of the support, the texts, the calls, the love. We feel so loved, and appreciate it.

Update: The vet called me as I was writing this, she is also currently having a GI bleed, which means she might need a blood transfusion as well, and she has quit eating. Which is not a good sign. Keep up in your thoughts.
