Trauma therapy for Chicago's children

Thank you for visiting this page. I'm currently fundraising for a project that I think is very important.
With the steady increase in horrific violence in Chicago, there are many victims that go unsupported. As a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in the impact of trauma, I would like to spend one day a week providing therapy services to the youngest children of this crises, at no cost to the families. Children that have lost family members, friends, who are afraid to walk to school, who know far too much about violence. For years I provided in home therapy for children and their families in Chicago so I feel comfortable and well versed in serving a community that often goes without the valuable resource of mental health services. I have been contacted by several school principals who desperately recognize the need for this service for their children but have no money to support it.
Everyone agrees that the violence Chicago has seen must come to an end. I don't want to take away from the importance of that message. Just as there have been far, far too many children killed, there have also been thousands of children's and families left alone to grieve and mourn. No one to help them with their sadness, their memories, their flashbacks. What I hope to impact with this fundraising is that a few less children and families will go through this process all alone. The reality is that unresolved anger, grief, trauma, PTSD, and sadness from living in a community affected by so much violence will only perpetuate the cycle of violence.
The money raised will go towards the cost of providing this service: the overhead of bringing these services in-home, supplies such as puppets, toys and games. I want to raise enough money to commit to 10 families for a year. If enough money is raised, the goal would be to bring on additional service providers to expand the network of help provided.
