WDP HITCHIN CHARITY 2016

Donation protected
This year Willmott Dixon Partnerships are supporting 2 major charities; Herts Young Homeless and Dekamile.

Herts Young Homeless

HYH is an independent charity that supports vulnerable people in Hertfordshire. With offices throughout Herts, hyh’s mission is to prevent homelessness by empowering individuals to make positive informed choices and to support young people and their families, those in crisis, and individuals at risk of becoming homeless. They see around 1800 people a year who are in housing need and we work tirelessly to help them secure appropriate accommodation and get the support they need to enable them to fulfil their potential in life.

HYH is comprised of:

- an Advice and Information service
- Crashpad (an emergency accommodation scheme)
- a longer term Floating Support service
- Mediation services for young people and their families
- an Education team that prepares young people for the realities of leaving home
- an hyh Health team that support people of all ages at risk of homelessness with mental health and/or substance misuse problems

They also give valuable support to groups with specific needs, such as care leavers, young offenders, those with mental health issues and people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. They want to make sure they have a firm base for a brighter future.

Over the last four years, Willmott Dixon Partnerships  has been supporting Dekamile, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of the community in Agome Sevah, a remote village in Togo.  During this period we have assisted in the building of a clinic and an academy, as well as giving residents access to clean water and solar power.

Dekamile

This year we are participating again in another exciting project.  With the charity and the community, we will be building an accommodation block for students and teachers visiting the academy.

Not only are we hoping to raise money for the construction project, we will also be sending some Willmott Dixon personel to the village to assist in the work.  Two years ago, one of our apprentices, Jamie Watkins, took part in the construction of the academy. Whilst the work and conditions were arduous, Jamie described the experience as “life changing”.

The project is due to go live in July 2016. That means we need to get materials on site by May of the same year if we are to hit our target of providing a fantastic facility for the people of Agome Sevah. We know you support our vision and aspirations and we would be extremely grateful for any support that you feel your organisation can give.

What are we trying to achieve?

As stated our plan is take this community for abject poverty to self sustainable prosperity. But what does that mean and how?

We need to achieve the following:

1.     Provide the infrastructure that any community needs to become prosperous, much of which we take for granted in the “western world” take for granted. This includes what we call out platform for success:

o   Good education for all

o   Good health facilities for all

o   Clean accessible water

o   The ability to earn a living

2.     To achieve this we need to create an economy and as a part of that we need to bring people in to the village.

3.     So in addition to rebuilding the school, the clinic, providing wells etc we have built a new apprenticeship school and we are about to build an accommodation block. This will enable us to house teachers and pupils for the Willmott Dixon 4Life Academy during term times and summer training schemes.
