Help Jade Help Orphans in Ghana!
My name is Jade Kim, and I am a full-time student, worker, and dreamer. This June marks my 21st birthday, and I could not think of a more fulfilling way to spend it than to be doing what I love most: making a difference. Thus, I have elected to spend three weeks in Ghana at the Handi Children Outreach Home where I will be teaching, enriching, and caring for the numerous orphaned children who have been left parentless due to various tragic circumstances in and around the region of western Africa.
I will be volunteering through International Volunteer Headquarters (http://www.volunteerhq.org/volunteer-in-ghana.html) in the orphanage sector, where I will be stationed with other volunteers who share the same vision.
Africa has become a bittersweet story of tragedy and hope. To most of western society, Africa has been stigmatized as the land of genocide, HIV, and political instability. While these issues definitely do exist, it should not tarnish our view of the continent as a whole. Economic prosperity and social justice is not out of hand for these historically-rich and eclectic countries. A difference can be made, and the best place to start is with the children. This is a fact that is ubiquitous with every culture, developing or prospering. A donation to this cause will cultivate a brighter future for the children of Ghana, while also rewarding me with the most life-changing experience I will ever encounter.
The money will go directly towards paying for the trip (airfare, room and board, etc.) and any extra money will go directly towards purchasing supplies and toys for the children (i.e. shoes, food, books, pencils, etc.).
I am not asking for donations as a young person who simply wishes to leave the country, but as a person who genuinely sees the hope and potential of this developing country, with nothing but love and compassion to offer.
