Matthew & Leukaemia

One boy, his naughty blood and the push for a cure.
Description:

On 23rd February 2010 our lives were turned upside down when Matthew was given the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. I am his mum Vicky. That day will be etched in my mind forever. All I could think was that my child might die.
Three years on and Matthew is two months away from the end of 3 very long years and two months of treatment. It hasn't been an easy journey by any means, but we've got here.
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) is the most treatable of blood cancers, and certainly in the last 50 years success rates for treatment have increased from just 1% survival rate to 90%. That is amazing, but it's not enough. 10% of children are not surviving and that is something we need to change. We need a cure!
As a family (me, Matthew and his siblings, Abigail & Thomas), we are very keen to give something back in return for the excellent support and care we have received. We have raised £1000 for our local children's ward at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, using this to purchase equipment for parents' stays. This year we would like to do much more, with a serious fundraising drive to raise a significant amount of money. These funds will be split between Oak Ward at Musgrove Park Hospital and Leukaemia and Lymphoma research. Please help us to achieve this.
