Help Ellie & Brian with Medical Bills

5/25/13: Ellie has entered the most intense and expensive portion of her chemo treatments. She has been handling round 2 pretty well but feels very tired and a lot more nauseous than round 1. Ellie's hair has fallen out but she is getting compliments on her new wig when she is out and about. She is continuing to be active and has been biking and walking in between nap sessions. She has been working very closely with her physicians to control the side effects. Ellie & Brian have also been going to the hospital to do IV hydration treatments to clear her kidneys of the chemo. Tuesday starts the last session of round 2 and chemo is expected to go through mid July - another 9 weeks. Ellie still plans to try to do the run for women on June 8th and that depends on how she feels that morning. It is the plan and it is a big goal of Ellie's. So far Ellie's blood results are looking encouraging to continue to receive the chemo treatments at the pace she is enduring. The tumor markers are declining. Ellie is adjusting to life without a spleen. Most of her large intestine & quite a bit of her liver were almost removed during the first surgery. So that is good news! Ellie & Brian are very thank-ful for everyone's love and support! THANK-YOU!
4/24/13: Ellie is finishing up her first course of chemotherapy and is getting ready for her second course to start. Ellie got a shorter hairdo last week as her hair has begun to fall out. She looks as beautiful as ever. Ellie has put on a couple more pounds and is getting stronger everyday. She is planning on competeing in the Heart Run on Saturday! Way to go Ellie!
4/5/13 ~ Ellie went up and did a few spring skiing laps on the hill yesterday. She said she was glad she remembered how to ski since it had been since Jan 25. Although she feels weak she is pushing on! It was great to see her out & about! Ellie has also had two rounds of chemotherapy over the last two weeks, so far she is handling it like a trooper.
3/27/13 ~ Ellie went to town for her first chemo treatment yesterday. She also went and got a new short hairdo! Looking good!
3/23/13 ~ Ellie has had what is expected to be her last surgerical procedure of this journey. The doctor removed the stent from her bile duct last night in a short sucessful procedure. With the removal of the stent the pathway is clear to start chemotherapy on Tuesday. Ellie is home from the hospital recovering from this procedure. Ellie is kicking cancer's ass!

It has been a little over 5 weeks since my surgery, everything is healing up as it should, even though it is not fast enough for me. I am getting up and able to do some minor chores around the house, like throw in a load of laundry or put away dishes but I get tired very easily and am still spending a great deal of time in the recliner. I was able to go to Anch yesterday & see my oncologist, visit my mother & go to the grocery store. I think it was my first day without a nap! I did spend the rest of the afternoon & evening in my chair pretty much exhausted.
I have been trying to get out for a walk everyday while the weather has been so great. The farthest I've been able to go has been a walk to the hotel...2.35 miles. I also have made one walk up to the Sitz to meet the après gang, fun, but I wish I could ski. Maybe towards the end of April. I'm hoping to walk up and watch some Jr Ski Racing in the sunshine this afternoon.
So my team of Surgeons has given me the thumbs up to move on to the Oncologist (Dr. Jeanne Anderson) & her team, which will administer my chemotherapy through Katmai Oncology, which is all part of the new Cancer Center at Providence. I hope no one reading this has to get to know the place, but if one had to, you could not ask for a more pleasant building ( my favorite part is the sky bridge over Chester Creek ) or more kind and caring staff.
It's kind of interesting that as a person who grew up in Anch, I was always at a brand new school, a new mall was opening or new theatre, museum. Anyway, now that I have to be treated for ovarian cancer, I get to go to a brand new facility. It's pretty cool, even the room I was in at Providence PCU was so recently remodeled it still smelled like fresh paint.
I have one more trip to day surgery at Providence on Friday where Dr McCray, who put in a stent in a duct in my liver, now has to remove it. It's not a big deal, he inserts a laparoscope in through the stomach, I think the original time was only about 15 minutes. Hopefully it will be even easier to take it out!
On Monday I start chemotherapy. I know nothing about it except what we all kind of know about it. Brian and I are going to an orientation on Thursday, so I guess we'll know more what to expect after that, but I'm approaching it like I did the surgery: just go, see what the experts have to say; then do it. Simple.
Brian and I want to say "thank you, thank you" to everyone that has contributed to this site, maybe someday we will be able to thank each and every one of you in person, but right now please accept our humble gratitude and know that you have given us the precious gift of some peace of mind in these challenging days.

3/14/13 Ellie went on her first outdoor walk yesterday and enjoyed some great sunshine & fresh air. She continues to get stronger everyday!
3/11/13: Ellie visited the doctor on March 6th and she is healing well from the surgery. She is able to eat small portions of food. The doctors have said they are impressed with her progress so far. They will begin chemotherapy sometime after March 19th. Ellie is expected to go through the chemo treatments for the next 5 months. Burntski has gotten approval from the docs to set up the treadmill & stationary bike at home and Ellie is allowed to start exercising again. Ellie is signed up for and hopes to participate in the Bike for Women and the Run For Women. Being fit & active is what has allowed her to do as well as she has thus far. Ellie went to the Girdwood clinic on Thursday, Jan. 31 with a tummy bug that would not go away. By 8PM that evening she had come to town for a CT scan and had been given the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. She and Brian saw the oncologist the next day, and she was scheduled for surgery on Feb. 11. The surgery was "aggressive" but was determined by her surgical team to be the best possible road to recovery.
Ellie is now home recovering after 3 weeks in the hospital, but still has a long road ahead of her. Chemotherapy is next after she recovers from the surgery.
Without insurance this will be very expensive. Anything you can donate to help them cover their medical expenses would be greatly appreciated.
Ellie and Brian are two of the most thoughtful and caring people I know. They do alot for our community and are always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. They are great friends to many people and have touched a lot of souls. They can be too stubborn to ask for help so please send some love their way.
