Home Modifications Needed for Joe
Donation protected
My dear husband Joe was diagnosed with Motor Neurones Disease in August 2015. Since his diagnosis his health has declined quite quickly. He is no longer able to work. He uses a walking stick to walk around the house but he needs to use an electronic wheelchair outside of the house. We have 2 beautiful children, Sebastian is 8 years old and Sophia is 1 year old. When Sophia was born she was premature 2 months and her right lung collapsed. She is now a very healthy 16 month old girl, thankfully. We had a very difficult 2015. Unfortunately there are still many challenges ahead which face us. As Joe's condition rapidly declines there are a few items we need to purchase but cannot afford. I returned to work early from maternity leave so we can continue to pay our mortgage, so we don't lose our home. I work 4 days at the moment, but don't earn a huge amount of money for all our family needs. Luckily we are able to access some funding from Centrelink to have a carer in our home to care for our daughter because Joe is no longer able to care for her physically. His speech and swallowing is declining slowly and soon he may lose his voice all together and be no longer able to communicate with his children. We have borrowed an electronic wheelchair, but need to purchase one soon, we need to modify our bathroom and home with wheelchair accessibility. We need to purchase a wheelchair vehicle. We need to have our home painted because just before Joe became ill he was half way through painting our home. Unfortunately we do not have the funds for any of this because my earnings go towards mortgage, school bills, food etc. There is nothing left at the end of the week. We really need your help to give Joe a better life so he can enjoy the time he has left with his family. Soon I will have no choice but to leave work because Joe's personal care needs are increasing. Please, any small amount can make a huge difference in our lives. I wish you all well and thank you for being apart of our journey.
