Keep Piero’s Open

Looks like it’s headed towards round three! Unfortunately, this pandemic only seems to be worsening as the winter months approach and as predicted, another shutdown seems to be imminent. Even without another total shutdown to takeout only, the outdoor-only option will no longer be an option for most once winter kicks in. Our industry has really taken the brunt of these shutdowns and many of our colleagues have had to shut their doors forever. Everything they had worked for, their American Dream, taken away at no fault of their own. It’s heartbreaking and fills the rest of us with anxiety over whether we will be next. The restaurant/bar industry is one of the biggest industries in regards to employment and tax contributions in our Commonwealth. So, while we suffer from this pandemic in the short-term, our economy will need a long time to recover from this. We need our businesses open and our residents employed to make this happen. Over the past two years, we have been hit hard by two instances that were totally out of our control (bridge closure and COVID). Piero’s has never been a business that was going to send me into early retirement—it was more of a week-to-week business—but we have been able to make it work for nearly 11-years. And our family takes pride in that. It has afforded us with an opportunity to provide for our families in addition to the many who have worked for us over that time to be able to provide for their families and even pay for their own education(s). Many [great] restaurants have come and gone during our tenure and the fact that our customers and our community continue to patronize our business and keep us going is humbling. The support we’ve received over these past two years is incredible. But we’re going to be facing our toughest challenge yet at a critical time. Our lease was slated to end in July of 2021. We’ve been in negotiations to extend that lease but signing on to something so big during such an uncertain time in our world is difficult to do. We want to stay! Last year, my post, “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” Was basically talking about this moment. Little did we know we’d be hit with a global pandemic on top of the bridge issue. That post now grows tenfold. Do we stay, or do we go? We know what we want... I’ve never been one to ask for help, but I have a team that relies on me. I can always give in, close up shop, and go find work. But I don’t want to do that. I want to help support my team, help them maintain employment, and to keep Piero’s as a staple of this community for years to come. Unfortunately, with the past circumstances and what we’re bracing for this winter, we’re not going to be able to do that on our own. So, as suggested by a customer and a friend who has seen other business successfully try this, I have started this GoFundMe. Funds raised will be used for operating costs only; just the things to help us see our way through this mess and support the staff. Hopefully in the end, we are still here and able to find a way to thank you all. Thank you again for your continued support over the years. We wouldn’t have made it 11-years without you all!
