On September 30, our family received devastating news that no one ever wants to hear, my baby brother Brad Rosner was diagnosed with Stage 4 bile duct cancer. Brad was only 36 years old and unfortunately he did not make it to his 37th Birthday on November 21st. Brad is married to my oldest friend, Barbra Hollander Rosner and together they had two young, beautiful boys ages 6 and 3. The thought of them living without their father breaks my heart in a million pieces.
Many people may not know that Brad had Crohn’s Disease since he was nine years old, so when he wasn’t feeling well, we assumed it was Crohn’s related. When Brad was first diagnosed, we were all in a state of shock. Not only was hearing the cancer diagnosis a blow, but learning that it was stage four was devastating. The cancer is very aggressive and has grown to the size of a softball and unfortunately has spread into Brad’s lungs and spine.
It took a few weeks to determine the origin, but he was finally treated at Northwestern Hospital. On October 22, he began Chemotherapy to help try to shrink the tumor. Due to the treatment, Brad sadly had to stay in quarantine from his family to avoid any potential sickness since his immune system was so compromised. The goal of the chemo was to help shrink the tumor so he could be eligible for a trial drug.
The thought that Brad will not be here to see his boys grow up leaves me speechless. We just can’t comprehend a world without him in it. The only thing we can focus on right now is being there for his boys and Barbie. We have set up a Go Fund Me in Brad’s name to help secure a future for his two young boys. Our family is so appreciative of all the support, phone calls, emails and text messages from family and friends near and far. Everyone who knew him loved him, everyone is hurting and will continue to hurt. A major piece of all of us, is no longer here.
