Worthing Mayoral Charities Fund

I am Lionel Harman The Mayor of Worthing, I have chosen the following charities to support during my mayorty T.S Vanguard Worthing Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets is based at their HQ at TS Vanguard in Broadwater Road, and is a local Charity proving young people in the area - aged between 10 and 18 - with a learning opportunity through activity and training in life skills, as well as providing an insight and experience of life in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The unit has been in Worthing since the 1940’s and has seen numerous Cadets move into the Military as a career. Funds raised during the year will go towards converting part of the unit and establishing a Marine Engineering Department, with a variety of resources and equipment, to further expand the overall Cadet Experience, as well as providing training in Marine Engineering. https://www.worthing-sea-cadets.co.uk/ Worthing Sea Cadets Charity Number – 305446 The Worthing Society Our Society was formed in 1982 to conserve and protect the town’s unique built heritage and to stimulate public interest in the historic environment. We recognise the profile of conservation work now needs to be presented in a more visually appealing and accessible way. To fulfil this aim we have evolved our Blue Plaque Heritage Trail to unlock the significant social and architectural history of Worthing. Any funding we are fortunate enough to receive will be used to reprint and update our Blue Plaque Heritage Trail leaflets for distribution in the community. A new laptop would also help us to develop an Online Archive as an open research resource and to continue our group talks. We hope these initiatives will highlight the enjoyment and value of our heritage to all sections of the community. http://www.worthingsociety.org.uk/ Worthing Society Charity Number – 286899 Worthing Mencap Worthing Mencap has been operating in Worthing and the surrounding areas for over 60 years! Started by local parents of people with learning disabilities in 1958, since then the charity has strived to meet the needs of people with learning disabilities, autism and associated disabilities. We are very active in the community and hold our vision, mission and values close in all that we do. The funds raised through the Worthing Mayor's Charities, will go directly to support our work-based training at Buddy’s. We are delivering two training courses, one in food preparation and one in customer services, for people with learning disabilities or autism who are unemployed in the Worthing Area. The whole aim is to help people towards further education or employment and to live more independently. https://www.worthingmencap.org/ Worthing Mencap Charity Number – 214369
