My name is Blaise and my origins are in the Democratic Republic of Congo. For almost two decades, the country has been shaken by a series of wars involving neighbouring countries and dozens of Congolese militias. Despite being a heavily conflict stricken country, Congo has managed to remain a centre for African culture, specifically dance and music. After being a (professional) dancer for over a decade, I have decided to raise funds and build an orphanage in my country. The war has been devastating and has torn many families apart. At the moment, we have over 130,000 children living under rough conditions on the streets, half of which are girls.
I believe in seizing opportunities and I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by amazing people in my life so far, who have helped me grow into the person that I am today. I feel it is time I start giving back to the community where I have learnt my first steps, where kids are often the most amazing dancers in the world, and where poverty and war are their worst enemies.
Starting from January 2016, all proceeds from my festival (Corfu Beach Festival) and every penny I will receive from being a dance instructors and/or DJ will be directed towards building that orphanage. It will become my legacy. It will also become the legacy of all the dancers who have participated in any of my events or listened to the music I played, as well as anyone who has otherwise contributed to this cause. A place we will be proud of… a place which will change the lives of many children.
In the short term we aim to raise enough funds to buy a piece of land on the outskirts of Kinshasa and begin construction.
I will update you regularly via this forum on the progress we make.
Let's give these children a fighting chance for a better future and an opportunity to become the best they can be. Thank you for your support.
