UPDATE

Dr. Green-Reese had been dealing with minor signs of kidney infection which progressed to a serious level directly resulting from her traumatic life as a young 13 years old girl.  Presently, she is under the care of threenationally and specialized doctors andTransplant Team specialists at Vanderbilt University’s Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.  Dr. Green-Reese has been placed on the kidney transplant list at the Center and is seeking the assistance for a kidney donor.       A living kidney donor will be the best for me and will make a significant difference in the continuation of a longer life for me.

When the staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center became familiar with Dr. Reese’s professional accomplishments and her life’s story, they recruited her to serve on the Vanderbilt University’s Patient, Family & Community Kidney Advisory Committee.  Dr. Green-Reese has become a passionate advocate for kidney health and kidney disease prevention.  She has also served as a keynote speaker at the Vanderbilt’s Medical School and other surrounding universities sharing her national and hidden 1963 Leesburg Stockade Story.

Dr. Green-Reese moved forward in life, earned degrees from Savannah State University, Georgia State University and her Doctor of Philosophy degree from Florida State University in 2 years.  She has matured into a state-wide and nationally known accomplished professor and administrator in higher education.  She has served with excellence in several academic and professional positons with such titles as Professor, Director of Athletics, and AssociateDirector of Athletics, Assistant Vice President, Director of Development, Special Project Recreational Administrator, and Chairperson. Dr. Reese’s curriculum vitae lists her as the first female in the State of Georgia to serve as Director of Athletics from1993 to 1998, and also, she has served as the first female from the State of Georgia to be appointed to serve on the highest athletic executive board, the NCAA Management Council, Division II for five (5) consecutive years from 1993 to 1998.

During her academic career she was also successful in research, publishing and grant writing. She has received several honors, commendations and awards from the National, State, and local organizations, committees and boards, including the President of the Board of Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Americus & Sumter County. She has served as a role model for countless of students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and neighbors all over the nation.

In 2014, Dr. Green Reese retired from academia to return to her home in Americus, Georgia to care for her disabled mother.  She continued her involvement on several civic, academic, professional and community-related activities and boards. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 26, and a number of other professional organizations.

Over the past years as a child, Dr. Green-Reese has been dealing with minor signs of kidney infection which has progressed to a major level directly resulting from her childhood days.  As a result of the excellent care Dr. Green-Reese has received at Vanderbilt, she has been able to avoid dialysis, but now is preparing for a kidney transplant very soon. With this surgery, I will be able to continue to serve my educational and community services for many years to come.  While she is grateful to have health insurance that will cover the majority of the costs of the transplant procedures, aftercare, but there are aftercare and exorbitant expenses related to the procedure that will be out of her pocket for a life time.

After Dr. Green-Reese’s discharged from the hospital, she must remain in Nashville, Tennessee to be closely monitored weekly, and depending on her progress, possiblymonths.  She has established a GoFundMeaccount with a kidney donor flyer with additional information athttps://tinyurl.com/yxruru6g.
