Evan's Expert Mental Health Consultation

Greetings...we are the parents of a bright and beautiful seven year old boy named Evan.  Since the age of two Evan has exhibited disproportionate behavioral issues beyond his control.  Over the last two and a half years these issues have manifested in physical tirades that have made it necessary to have him evaluated in two in-patient stabilization units (four in-patient stays total), the last culminating in three stays with one unit in Worcester, MA.  The psychiatrist with this unit has diagnosed Evan with mood disregulation/NOS (not otherwise specified).  We have been working with out-patient and in-home counselors and his psychiatrist with little or no change in his behaviors.

We have been in correspondence with Dr. Demitri Papolos, co-director of the Program in Behavioral Genetics and associate professor of clinical psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, regarding these behavioral and emotional patterns and Evan's current diagnosis.  Dr. Papolos feels that we should begin the process of a full consultation with him to determine his exact diagnosis, the best course of treatment and pharmacological interventions (medicine regiment). It is the doctor's and our beliefs that Evan is suffering from early onset bipolar disorder, subtype FOH (fear of harm).  This was reached after considering how Evan's moods escalate and bottom out, severe social anxiety, and his inability to thwart outward physical abuse of our family during an elevated mood state, and the defeatist lows encountered at the other end of the spectrum.

We are trying to raise $1,500.00 dollars, the donations will cover the cost of the $1,350.00 consultation with Dr. Papolos. The Fee's that "Go fund me and "we pay" charge for this service and Travel. Evan is such a sweet and loving child, and it breaks our hearts when he tells us that he cannot control or find reason for his emotional and physical outbursts.  It is unbearable to see him placed in these stabilization centers and never getting the level of help towards getting the proper diagnosis.

This is a quote from an article regarding EOB to consider; "What is clear is that this is not a benign illness--it warps children and it has a mortality rate greater than childhood leukemia. The lives of many of our youth are at stake, and the illness and its incidence requires research, not ridicule."  It is our duty as his parents to seek out and give Evan the best chance for a balanced, healthy childhood so he can carry that into his adult life.  We sincerely appreciate any assistance in helping us meet this goal, and also ask for your thoughts and prayers for both Evan and our family during this trying time.  Thank you.
