Running for Katie!

This year Kate, Taz and I will run the 21km half marathon city to surf and we will be running for our sister and friend Katie.... we will run for her because she is not able to run herself.
On August 18th 2013 while travelling in Bolivia, Katie was in a bus accident. Her T12 vertebrae was crushed and her spinal cord was damaged resulting in her becoming an incomplete paraplegic. She spent months in hospital and has been through years of rehabilitation. It has been a long road of recovery but she has gone from being in a wheelchair to now being able to walk with the help of a walking aide.
From the outside she seems to have recovered well and moved on with her life. The ongoing things that we can’t see, like the need for continued rehabilitation, the pain she suffers and all the emotional struggles she has to deal with on a daily basis are some of the things Katie will have to live with for the rest of her life.
Unfortunately for Katie she did not receive any compensation for her accident to help alleviate some of the financial pressure it has placed on her. Though Katie has returned to work she still has all the bills and expenses of general day to day living that we all have, but there is not much left to put towards these added expenses caused by her injury.
We would like to try and raise some money to go towards Katie’s ongoing rehabilitation costs including medication, physio and appointments as these are things she has to do to ensure her recovery is maintained and continues to move forward.
It’s hard watching your sister go through something so challenging, but she inspires us every day with her strength and courage, she never asks for help and this is exactly why we want to try and raise money for her recovery because she deserves to have a little bit of a helping hand.
