Dear Cruisers, Metalheads, Friends and all the people who follow the 70000 tons of metal,
since our skipper Andy announced that the next cruise (2017) destination will be Labadee, Haiti we are thinking about this decision. I'm sure many of you guys (and girls) know that Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere – acutally the poorest country.
Me and some other cruisers talked about this situation and did'nt like the idea of partying at the beach and pay 4 or 5 dollars for a beer while over half of the citizens on this island got daily earnings of $2 or less.
Sure, if I don't like the idea of travelling to Haiti I just have to stay at home and miss the next cruise. Or do the cruise and stay on the boat during the stop at Labadee. But this (and bitching about RC or Andy) is destructive behaviour. I'm a person who like more the constructive thinking. And the most constructive thing I can think about is try to help those people. Just a little bit. So I started this campaign to raise some money. I'm sure If we can collect money to get befriended cruisers on board (like we did in the past years) we can do the same for an aid agency.
I did a research for german agencies and also contacted the german diplomatic mission in Haiti to get more informations. I contacted a few agencies and finally brought the list down to two of them. Both supporting Haiti since the 80s.

I opened up a separate bank account and fellow cruisers Pascal Wrage and Kate Gorisch are involved in this project. The campaign will run till the end of February 2017. We're also working on some specials to come (like unique goodies) to make a donation for all cruisers and metalheads more interesting.
I know everybody has to save money for the cruise. Me too. But I hope that many cruisers as possible try to support my idea. Every dollar/euro... will help those people in Haiti.

Liebe Cruiser, Ex-Cruiser, Mitleser und Freunde.
Als im Februar verkündet wurde, dass es 2017 mit „unserem“ Boot nach Haiti gehen soll, ist wohl nicht nur uns die Kinnlade nach unten geklappt. Wir haben ja schon öfters ärmere Gefilde bereist, aber die Bilder, die uns aus Haiti erreichten, sind unvergessen. Und jetzt noch mit einem Luxusliner an einem Strand anlegen, hinter dem die Menschen nicht mal einen Dollar am Tag zum Überleben haben? Die Antwort können wir euch leider auch nicht liefern, aber einen kleinen Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Lage leisten? Vielleicht! Und ja, es ist das schlechte Gewissen, dass wir damit versuchen, zu beruhigen. Aber was ist die Alternative? Die Cruise nicht buchen? Nicht von Bord gehen, wenn das Schiff vor Haiti anlegt und für viel Geld Alkohol konsumieren? Wir haben das alles lange durchdiskutiert und abgewogen und beides für die schlechtesten aller Lösungen befunden. Geld regiert die Welt und deshalb rufen wir nun eine Spendenaktion ins Leben, bei der jeder seinen Beitrag dazu leisten kann oder eben auch nicht, ganz egal, einen Versuch ist es wert.
Wir kommen ja nicht ganz unvorbereitet damit, haben zu Beginn die deutsche Botschaft von Haiti angeschrieben, die dürfen allerdings keine Tipps abgeben was Hilfsorganisationen betrifft. Aber von der Botschaft kam immerhin eine Reisewarnung und eine Liste, die wir aber dann außen vor gelassen haben. Wir haben drei Organisationen angeschrieben und uns am Ende für zwei davon entschieden, denen die Einnahmen zu Gute kommen sollen.

Zusätzlich versuchen wir, die ein oder andere Aktion dazu zu starten, das Spendenkonto ist bis nach der Cruise im Februar 2017 offen, wobei noch erwähnenswert ist, dass Pascal, Kate und ich Zugriff zu diesem Konto haben, also es keinen Alleininhaber gibt.
Wir wissen ganz genau, dass ihr euch selbst jeden Pfennig für diese Reise abspart, aber vielleicht ist hin und wieder der ein oder andere Euro/Dollar drin, um uns und die oben genannten Vereine zu unterstützen.... Nur zusammen sind wir stark und jeder Cent zählt.
Bei Fragen stehen Pascal und ich euch gerne zur Verfügung.
