Update:
Bernard was transferred to a post acute neuro-recovery center in Conroe, TX.  He is in a full day rehab program.  Please follow us on Caring Bridge for daily updates on Bernard's progress.  Your gift will help cover medical equipment costs once he returns home.

UPDATE:
Bernard was transferred to TIRR Memorial Hermann for intensive rehab.  He has a long road to recovery and is making progress each day.  Your gift will help cover medical costs once he is discharged from TIRR.

On Sept 12th, Bernard suffered 2 massive strokes in the right side of the brain and several small strokes on his left side. He fell asleep and did not wake up.  He was life flighted from Memorial Hermann SE to Memorial Hermann  Medical Center.     Initially, doctors could not determine the cause of the stroke.  We now know he may have had a seizure and atrial fibrillation and that most likely caused the stroke. He is beating all the odds per the doctors and textbooks as he shouldn't be alive today, the doctors call him an anomaly.   He is still CRITICAL but has been stable and progressing.  You may follow his journey on https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/bjgiddings

A little about Bernard:
Bernard was born and raised in Marlin, TX where he was a standout athlete  (Marlin Bulldogs) in football, basketball and track earning many accolades:  3-time all district football and basketball selection, first team all district, All-state and Super Cent-TX in 1980.  He played in the 1981 Texas High School Coaches All-Star game.  #17 was a blue chip high school football player recruited by Coach Bill Yeoman at the University of Houston (1984 Southwest Conference Championship, 1985 Cotton Bowl). He wanted to also play basketball at UH. He shared a story of when he played with Clyde Drexler and Olajuwon decided he'd stick with football because he was short at 6'4.    He is a proud Cougar and have football season tickets and part of Cougar Pride.  He is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and hates the Texans. (don't hold it against him).

Bernard has worked in corrections working with both adult and youth offenders.  While working at the juvenile bootcamp, he was on the Maury Povich Show.  He has been with the Department of Homeland Security- Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for close to 20 years. He is a Security Manager at Houston Hobby Airport and you may have seen him wandering around the checkpoint. He loves his job and believes in the mission.  He is needing additional sick/leave time and we appreciate any donation.  If you are a federal employee or know anyone that is, you may donate leave time to Bernard.

He is married to June and have been together for  25 years.  They are a strong team and committed to one another.  You don't see one without the other.   He is a Giddings...he is a fighter and strong.

We know this will be a long journey and your contribution will help in funding his medical needs.   Thank you for your love and support! ❤️ June
