Our Quest for Baby Stephens
Tommy and I met in August 2011 and knew pretty much right away that this was it. Knowing that I wasn't getting any younger, we decided early the next year that I would stop birth control and just expected I would soon become pregnant.
After about 6 months of no luck, I made an appointment with my GYN, who had us try 6 cycles of Clomid. Once again, no luck. I had tests done to make sure my tubes weren't blocked, no problems there. Hormone levels came back slightly below normal to normal. Tommy checked out fine. We were having multiple problems in the apartment where we had moved and I was changing jobs. Everyone kept saying the problem was too much stress and that's why it wasn't happening.
We spent hundreds of dollars on ovulation tests each month just to be continually disappointed. We decided in mid 2014, after we had moved to a brand new apartment, that we would finally seek an opinion from a fertility specialist. What a disappointment. The number one concern of the office the minute we walked in the door, was the almighty dollar. I went through multiple blood tests again, Tommy went through his part again. Everything normal again. This time I had an ultrasound done and the results were like a knife in my heart. "You only have 3 follicles on your left ovary and your right ovary is empty." "The chances of you conceiving are very slim." I held it together until I got out of the office and then came the tears and the anger.
I couldn't believe after taking so long to find "The One" we would be robbed of the chance of being parents. I had accomplished everything in life the way I thought it was supposed to be. I couldn't imagine losing a piece of the puzzle.
Fast forward to March 2016 and we decided to do whatever it takes to start our family. We made an appointment with a new doctor at Shady Grove in April and met Dr. Sasson who totally changed our outlook. He spent over an hour with us explaining everything and answering questions. In the end, he guaranteed we would get pregnant. We were beyond thrilled! We will have to use a donor egg, which at this point, is just something we have to do. Whatever it takes! And another bonus, it is a money back guarantee. You keep trying until you have a baby or you decide to stop trying and receive a refund. The only drawback is the cost:(
We decided on the Shared Risk program, which has us share donor eggs with 2 other people. This is the least expensive program and the cost is $30,000. We are only able to finance $20,000. We can start the program as soon as we come up with the remainder.
We have some savings and will continue to save but need help reaching our goal of starting our family.
Your gift will help us complete our only dream, which is a child of our own.
